The Indonesia Halal Assurance Agency (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal/ BPJPH) has published the Ministry of Religion Decree No. 1360/2021 on the Materials Exempted from the Obligation of Halal Certification on their official website. This decree will serve as guidance for regulatory bodies to decide whether the materials of a product would need halal certification.

The following are the materials exempted from the obligation of halal certification:

c. Materials originated from microbial fermentation process

Processed materials not at risk of containing and/or being contaminated with non-halal materials

a. Materials other than materials derived from nature as well as materials and chemical products resulting from addition or the result of inorganic and organic synthesis

Absorbent cotton gauze, cotton, cellulose, synthetic polymer

Chemicals that are not classified as dangerous and do not contain ingredients that are not halal

a. Chemicals originated from mining and/or purification process from natural materials

Magnesium oxide, Zinc Oxide, Paraffin, Silicone Dioxide, Calcium Oxide

b. Inorganic and organic synthesized chemicals

Aminophylline, Noscapine, Ammonia, Alginic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Valproic Acid
