Large medical equipment is a special type of medical equipment with complex technology, large capital investment and high operation cost, having a great impact on medical expenses. In order to optimize the allocation of large medical equipment in the hospitals, the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China has issued a new Acceptance Catalogue of Large Medical Equipment (hereinafter referred to as the Catalogue). In the “catalogue”, large medical equipment is divided into 2 classes, namely: (1) Class A, which is worth more than thirty million RMB and is allocated and particularly managed by the National Health Commission; and (2) Class B equipment which worth ranges from ten million to thirty million RMB, and is allocated by the branch health commission in every province. Compared with the previous catalogues, the number of Class A products were reduced to five, while the number of Class B products has increased to seven.

It would be noteworthy to keep in mind that Classifications A and B does not correspond to risk level classification, but rather used for the Acceptance Catalogue of Large Medical Equipment.
